DeleteThank you for this excellent post! However, I seem to be stuck- after entering download mode, I plug my SGT and Windows 7 is unable to find a compatible driver (and therefore Odin cannot find the device). I have a SGT model GT-P1000; any suggestions on where I can find the driver I need?
ReplyDeleteGo to my other guide "[HOW TO] Flash SGS and install custom ROM - FULL GUIDE", download Heimdall Suite, scroll down to STEP 1 (ALTERNATIVE WAY) and follow the steps from 6 to 15.

ReplyDeleteYou're the best... In spanish: Eres el mejor tio!

ReplyDeleteBUT, if I put in my external SD, it installs everything fine through odin on my external SD.
Do you know a fix for that?
Are my internal and external SDs swapped? Or is it automatic that if the internal SD doesnt work, everything will be installed on the external?
Don't use your external SD. Remove it before doing anything. Try to do a re-partition, then install everything again.
DeleteIt work for I9003?
ReplyDeletesame dbdate with i9000?
Try to find the i9003 dbdata file and then follow the same steps.

ReplyDeletehey there, same as the above post, man was stressin all day and searchin for a solution.
ReplyDeleteyour solution worked fine. i became a member of a few forums and no help.
why doesnt any one explain what and exactly and where the file you download whether it needs to go in all three (csc, pda, and phone) or just bootloader and what to tick???!!!!
could have saved me alot of stress if the instructions said... "once you download the zip file that contains the pack, just tick bootloader and select the file you downloaded."
now, can anyone please tell me exactly where to download fryo 2.2 for my galaxy s gt i9000?
thanks again
You can download Froyo 2.2 from samfirmware.com

ReplyDeletei have a question, the archive I downloaded is a .rfs and it doesn't work with PDA, it needs to be .tar or so... what do i have to do"?
ReplyDeleteThe file you downloaded is rfs.tar. You don't need to decompress it. Use it as it is.
DeleteTHXS!
DeleteBut still doesn't work... I've tried to download the last stock firmware but it is only a JVI_JV6-JV5 file. In Odin, where do i have to put it, PDA, pghone or CSC?
Try with PDA.

Try to flash it using the XXJVU with a 512 pit. Also check re-partition.

ReplyDeleteMy SDcards seem to be gone.
Any other solution?
The errors are gone and i can mount them in recovery but my phone dont "see" any SDcards. Now in recovery i can put files on the ext-sdcard with my PC. So the card and cardslot are ok. It must be a software/android issue. Please help.

DeleteHi, I live in Mauritius and want to know if I'll be able to use my SIM card after doing this thing? I'm new to android, please help...I have Samsung Galaxy Y and this is my first android phone! :(
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't affect your SIM card so yes you'll be able to use it.
DeleteWhat I meant to say was...when I do this, will my mobile recognise my SIM card? Cause I once had a Sony Ericsson and when I updated the phone, it started to say "INVALID SIM" and I had to pay to get it unlocked!
DeleteAs I said before the process of fixing the "can't mount dbdata" error doesn't affect the SIM card. So your phone should not have any problem recognising your SIM card.
DeleteFile no longer available...
ReplyDeleteIt works now.
Deletethanks a lot worked for mynsamsung infuse

Maybe your sd card is corrupt. Remove your sd card and try to access it using your computer (card reader). If you still can't access it then the problem is with your sd card.

if i can go to download mode, i think i can solve this prblm with your instruction..can u help me?
Do the following:
Delete- Power off your device.
- Remove the battery for 30 seconds.
- Replace the battery.
- Press and hold the Volume Down and Home buttons.
- Then press the power button.
- Wait until the Samsung logo appears and then release the power button. (Don't release the other two.)
If it still doesn't work then do it again a couple of times.
If you still can't get into Download mode then something is wrong and in order to fix it you need a device called USB Jig.
Tks Dude
ReplyDeleteWorked like a charm!
ReplyDeletethat saved my time thanks [infuse 4 G i997]
thanks so much!
ReplyDeleteworks fine, thanks a lot
ReplyDeleteI followed the instructions as above. Odin doesn't seem to recognize the device...am I missing something? thanks.
ReplyDeleteI have a Samsung Galaxy S I9000
ReplyDeleteI start Odin3 v1.3 (also tried with Odin3_v1.0). After starting the phone in Download Mode, I connect it to PC using USB cable. However, I do not see an indication in Odin UI that the device is recognized.
I select the PDA and select the dbdata.rfs.tar file. On clicking Start I see the message:
All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 0)
I'm not sure if I'm missing something basic. Please help.
Update 1:
ReplyDeleteI tried with a different USB port...this time the device was recognized. However, the operation was not successful. Could you please let me know what I'm missing? Thanks.

But in the recovery mode, I still get the same message:
E:failed to mount /sdcard (File exists)
E:copy_dbdata_media:Can't mount /sdcard
your storage not prepared yet, please use UI menu for format and reboot options.
Desperately looking for a solution to this. I have photos and videos of my kids on the phone, which I do not want to erase. Please help. Thanks.
Do the following:
Delete(in order to backup your photos/videos)
1) Go to Recovery Mode
2) Go to mounts and storage
3) Connect your device to your computer
4) Click mount USB storage
5) Go to your computer and backup your photos/videos
Then do a factory reset, wipe everything in recovery (format SD card etc.) and try my tutorial again.
As mentioned in step 2 above, there is no "mounts and storage"...where do I find this ? Thanks.
DeleteWhich Android version are you running?
DeleteIf you don't see "mounts and storage" then "ClockworkMod" isn't installed on your device.
To install "ClockworkMod" follow the steps here:
1) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=734166
or here:
2) http://theunlockr.com/2012/11/22/how-to-install-clockworkmod-recovery-on-the-samsung-galaxy-s-i9000/
Then go to recovery mode and follow the steps in my previous message.
I hope this helps.
Installed ClockworkMod...now I see the options. But when I select the mount USB storage, I see this error "E:Unable to write to ums lunfile (No such file or directory!). Also I still keep getting the "E:Can't mount /sdcard".
DeleteThere might be an issue with your SD card.
DeleteRemove your SD card and try it again.
I only have a internal SD card. How do I remove it? Thank you for your patience in responding to my queries. I'm so grateful to you. Thanks.
DeleteThere is no way to remove the internal SD.
DeleteGet an external SD and then try again.
If it still doesn't work then backup your files through Recovery and then flash a stock ROM to get your device working again.
Man... I was stuck on that problem since 8 hours, you solved it... after your procedure i had then to flash stock ROM for GB 2.3.6, but definitely you saved mu SGS... thanks a lot!!!!!!!!!!!
